Poem – Swallows

You come with the sun
bringing pure joy.
Your feet find the exact spot on the wire
chattering excitedly
of your journey.

I eavesdrop
on tales of Africa
and welcome you home.
You share my house all summer.

When autumn comes
and you circle the garden and leave –
I bless you and am bereft.
