Chairman’s Letter – May 2019
Many of you will already know that Julia Wright, our membership secretary and past Chair, passed away recently after a short illness. I have known Julia for over 30 years having first met her when she married Gordon. She played a large part in helping Janet and I settle back into the North East nearly 3 years ago after a long period living in the South of England. She will be missed.
Tim Meacham has stepped in to the Membership Secretary role and should be the point of contact for any membership queries.
Most of the Committee roles have new incumbents and details can be found on the web site (teesdaleu3a.org.uk) under Contacts or in the latest edition of the Forum.
I am happy to take over from Tim Meacham as Chair of a successful organisation with nearly 400 members and 34 Groups. We have a strong and dedicated committee who work to ensure this success is ongoing.
We do, however, have an issue. Members are limited by our Constitution as to how much time they can spend on the Committee. A number of people on the current Committee are approaching that limit. We must find people this year who can shadow Committee members and perhaps take over from them next year or in future years. To use a well-worn cliché – none of us are getting any younger. With grandchildren, holidays and other commitments it is essential that there is someone who can step in to help out when needed. The Committee will be actively looking for people who can help and if you feel you have something to offer, please get in touch with one of us, we will be happy to talk with you on the part you can play.
Until next month.
