Chairman’s Letter – June 2020
Some Groups are adapting to the current circumstances and video meetings are taking place, we have even had remote wine tastings. I had some very good feedback about a meeting, with 15 attendees, organised by Bob Tuddenham, convenor of the Geology Group with considerable assistance from Trevor Morse:
- “I just wanted to say that I thought yesterday’s meeting was excellent. I really enjoyed the opportunity to listen and interact. Being online offers access to additional resources – the clip of the Norwegian landslide was incredible. Thank you – looking forward to the next meeting.”
“Thanks, Bob, the geology session was excellent, we both really enjoyed it and I think it worked very well on zoom. Well done to both of you!”
“Thank you very much for setting up and running the zoom meeting this morning. This went very well, and it was good to see so many faces, having missed meetings for three months.”
“That was great, a terrific effort. We both enjoyed it. ………..Look forward to the next episode.”
We are not able to run everything in our calendar (although I am leaving the dates in place as a prompt to us all) but we should be encouraged by the experience of Bob and others. If you are taking part in activities that deserve a wider audience let me, as Web Secretary, and the Forum team know.
I was gratified to hear that we now have over 300 people who have renewed for this current year. This, understandably, is down on last year but shows that people still want to be involved. However, I have not been overwhelmed with offers to fill the roles of Treasurer and Minute Secretary but I live in hope.
I hope everybody feels able to make the best of the current situation and the new and different opportunities it presents. Look after yourselves.
Mike Sweeting, Chairman
